Little Flyers Program

The Little Flyers Program is designed to support children and their families as they prepare to begin their school journey at LNPS. Starting school is an exciting milestone, and this program aims to make the transition into school life as smooth, positive, and familiar as possible.

Little Flyers provides children with opportunities to become comfortable within the school environment while gradually developing familiarity with school routines, expectations, and learning spaces. By spending time in the school setting before their official start, children are able to build confidence and develop a sense of belonging within the LNPS community.

Through a range of engaging and play-based learning experiences, children are encouraged to explore, interact, and develop important early learning skills. The program focuses on nurturing children’s social, emotional, and communication development while supporting their growing independence as learners.

Little Flyers also provides an opportunity for families to begin building relationships within the school community. Families are able to meet other children and parents who will be starting school together, helping to create supportive connections that can continue into the early years of schooling.

The program offers valuable opportunities for children and families to:

  • Become familiar with the school environment, classrooms, and learning spaces
  • Experience school routines and expectations in a supportive and relaxed setting
  • Build relationships with peers, staff, and other families
  • Establish connections within the LNPS community
  • Develop oral language, communication, and social interaction skills
  • Strengthen confidence, independence, and a positive attitude toward learning

Each Little Flyers session includes a variety of thoughtfully planned activities that support children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Experiences are designed to be engaging, hands-on, and responsive to children’s interests.

Activities may include:

  • Story time and shared reading, encouraging listening, comprehension, and a love of books
  • Arts and crafts, supporting creativity, fine motor development, and self-expression
  • Music and movement, promoting coordination, rhythm, and enjoyment of learning through song and play
  • Play-based learning experiences, where children can explore, imagine, and develop social skills through cooperative play
  • Group games and discussions, helping children practise turn-taking, communication, and problem-solving

These experiences aim to spark curiosity, build enthusiasm for learning, and support children as they begin to see themselves as capable and confident learners.

By providing a welcoming, supportive, and engaging introduction to school life, the Little Flyers program helps children and families feel connected, prepared, and excited for the start of their educational journey at LNPS.

Little Flyers Welcome

Parent Testimonials

“We found the Little Flyers program to be such a positive and beautiful way to transition our son into his first school experience, not only for him, but for us as parents too. It’s a gentle way to start building relationships, confidence, and familiarity with the school before that official first day. Starting the school year with that foundation already forming through the Little Flyers program was incredibly beneficial, and we are very grateful for the opportunity. Thank you for helping make such an important milestone feel exciting, familiar, and positive.”

“Little Flyers was the most incredible program to help my son Ryan get ready for school. As a shy and sensitive kid, it was the perfect way to slowly ease him into the school system, and help him to feel safe and comfortable. Thanks to all our Little Flyers visits, by the time Ryan started Reception, he was already really familiar with the school setting, the classroom, the teacher, the other children, and the morning routine. Little Flyers was particularly helpful for us as Ryan didn’t attend Lockleys pre-school, so we didn’t know any other families when we started.”

“The transition program, and the Reception program more broadly are brilliant. We have felt incredibly fortunate to have you and the LNPS team supporting both Leila and Darcy as they started school. For Darcy in particular, the Little Flyers program was invaluable. He has always experienced separation anxiety, dating back to childcare and continuing through kindy. While he still found some of the Little Flyers sessions challenging, I believe the program gave him the opportunity to become familiar with the school environment, build relationships with staff, and connect with other children before officially starting school. This foundation made such a difference. Although we weren’t able to attend every Little Flyers session due to work commitments, the sessions we did attend were really beneficial. Brad and I often talk about how impressed we have been with Darcy’s start to school. There have certainly been a few mornings where he’s been a little clingy or upset, but compared to what we anticipated, and what we had experienced previously, we have been so proud of him. One of the things that really stood out to us was the “Happy Goodbye” approach that the school encourages. As a parent, it can be so difficult to walk away with a smile when your child is looking so sad, but we quickly realised how effective it is. The consistency and confidence shown by staff helped both Darcy and us establish a positive routine. We were also worried about how Darcy would cope with the structure of school. He is a very active child, and never been one to just sit, draw or colour; at the beginning of the year it was a challenge to get him to sit down and write his name. The growth we’ve seen since then has been wonderful. He now happily sits at home drawing, writing letters, and engaging in activities that we never thought he’d show interest in. Most importantly, I think Little Flyers gave Darcy a sense of familiarity, belonging, and trust that we would return to pick him up. Instead of walking into an unknown environment, he was already recognising faces, routines, and spaces, which helped build his confidence and independence from day one.”
