Torrens (Years 3-4)
At Lockleys North Primary school we believe that all learners can and will be successful. Our vision is to develop a community of empowered learners who strive for success. Our values shape our vision, beliefs and way of being. Respect, Care and Concern, Honesty and Pursuit of Excellence guide every part of our culture, relationships, and teaching and learning.
In Torrens (Years 3-4) we work collaboratively to plan and provide the best possible learning experiences for our students. We see ourselves as co-learners, working with students as they learn, supporting them and fostering independence.
Being connected is a vital part of our world as it provides anywhere, anytime access to information and connects people within communities far and wide. There is a wonderful array of learning tools available for our students and teachers. In Torrens students will begin their journey of becoming digital citizens of the 21st century. They will be challenged, and encouraged to demonstrate flexibility, persistence, resilience, organisation and confidence navigating online learning.

English
In year 3 and 4 the study of English supports students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating.
Students are exposed to quality literature and explicitly taught the skills associated with reading and writing.
As part of our focus on improving literacy outcomes for all students, LNPS implements reading intervention programs for students in Years 1 – 6. The intervention programs help support students with their reading, spelling and reading comprehension.

Mathematics
Mathematics in Torrens is an active hands-on process where students build their mathematical understanding through discussion and interactive lessons.
Students will be encouraged and supported to take risks with their learning. They will learn to persevere with new or different and more efficient ways of thinking and problem solving. They will understand that mistake making is an important part of their learning.
Learning experiences in years 3 – 4 ensure students have repeated opportunities to revisit concepts, supporting students who need multiple exposure and repetition. Students who have mastered concepts are stretched with their learning in a variety of ways. Through mathematical investigative tasks students demonstrate the application of mathematical knowledge and strategies.

Technology
At Lockleys North we have a strong emphasis on developing our learner qualities through the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities. The General Capabilities play a key role in equipping young Australians to live and work successfully in the twenty-first century.
Digital Literacy plays a key role in the development of our learner qualities as at LNPS, in Year 3, all students receive a Chromebook that is funded as a component in the Materials and Services Charges and a subsidy from the school.
Families and teachers work together to oversee and guide children in establishing safe, ethical behaviour while using devices and whilst online.
Throughout the year, students will continually build onto their digital literacy skills, knowledge and learner qualities to become safe and responsible digital citizens.
